A surface acoustic wave (SAW) filter with good phase consistency for phased array radar application is introduced in this paper. A resonant 5 IDT structure and 42°YX- cut LiTaO3 substrate material have been used for the filter implementation. By optimizing the structure, the shape factor and the group delay ripple characteristic have been improved. The fabricated SAW filter has the center frequency of 500 MHz and the insertion loss of 1.2 dB. The design is satisfied with the requirement of high amplitude and phase consistency for the phased array radar application, and the rate of finished products has been increased.
